Homeless Ministry
And the Lord said to his servant, ‘Go into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in, so that my house might be filled.” Luke 14:23
Homeless ministry is unique in that to minister to the homeless, one has to intentionally go into the highways and hedges around town to find them. For typically, they move from one place to another. Where they sleep is a different place than where they hang out during the day. Homeless ministry is a purely compassionate ministry since these people will never be able to repay the kindness one shares with them. Some may be repulsed by what they find in the life of these hopeless people. Drug addiction, violence, mental illness, and disease are just some of the things that one is apt to find when you minister to such people. And yet Jesus told us that if we show kindness unto the least of these, you show kindness unto me.
How to get involved
The road that leads to involvement in the Highways and Hedges ministry is a simple one. There are 5 destinations where you can jump on board:
See the Need
“And the Lord said to his servant, ‘Go into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in so that my house might be filled.” – Luke 14:23
Remember, often God has chosen the lowly things of this world, and the things that are despised, and the things that are not, to nullify the things that are.
